He was also the inaugural club captain for Sydney FC; however, due to poor form and limited on-field time throughout the season, he has had few opportunities to exercise his role as captain. Due to this, Dwight Yorke accepted the captain's armband. Since the announcement of Yorke's departure from the club, Rudan has been reinstated as club captain.

Rudan currently plays in the number 4 shirt.

After struggling mid-season, Rudan made an impressive comeback scoring two important goals for his club in the play-offs to earn Sydney FC the Grand Final Championship.

Rudan started his career at Sydney United in the old NSL. He then moved across to city rivals Northern Spirit FC before heading off overseas, where he spent time in Europe and Asia. His previous overseas clubs are Alemannia Aachen (Germany), Nanjing FC (China) and Selangor Public Bank (Malaysia).

Mark Rudan once featured in an episode of Australia's The Biggest Loser TV show, airing on 28 February 2006. Mark was manager of the \"Blue team\" of contestants. Then Sydney FC teammate Dwight Yorke was manager of the red team.
